Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What exactly does a recovery coach do?
A: A recovery coach provides non-clinical support to individuals navigating their recovery from substance use disorder or other behavioral health issues. A coach helps clients set goals, build accountability, and develop new, practical strategies for long-term recovery.
Q: What if my loved one isn’t ready? Do you work with families?
A: Coaching can begin before someone is “ready”. In many cases - yes - that means beginning by working with the family first on creating conditions that will lead to readiness.
Q: Will you collaborate with other professionals like my therapist, psychiatrist, primary care physician, etc?
A: Yes - of course. We are always happy to collaborate and coordinate with other professionals who are supporting your progress. We will also recommend some trusted colleagues if we feel you would benefit from their work.
Q: How do you handle a scenario where your client relapses?
A: There are several variables that go into how we handle a client relapse. Variables will dictate the details of the course of action. Having said that - relapses are viewed as learning experiences and opportunities to adjust the treatment plan.
Q: If I am your client - how long can I expect to be working with you?
A: The length of our time together will be determined by your needs, your progress, and, frankly, how much you want to achieve together. We have worked with clients for a few months and others for years.
Q: What other issues do you assist clients with other than standard recovery materials?
A: Great Question! We work on ANYTHING that relates to your recovery. Job search support, back to school support, “adulting” skills, executive functioning, exploration of hobbies & interests, and many other areas are a typical part of our work.
Q: If I end up feeling like we are not a good “fit” - will you help identify some other options for me?
A: Yes - of course we will. Your relationship with your support team is incredibly important and you MUST feel like you’re with the right people. To that end - we will certainly help you find the right providers if it’s not us at PB Recovery Services.
